Specific aims of the study

The project specifically aims to provide real world recorded evidence determining whether indeed the injury risk when using an Operator Protection Devices (OPD), which is effectively a roll bar that is intended to reduce the risk of operator injury during a rollover of a quad bike (e.g. QuadbarTM or ATV LifequardTM), reduces, or in fact increases rollover crash injuries. No real world study has been performed to determine the efficacy of OPDs fitted to quad bikes. The project also aims to gather data related to helmet wearing among quad bike users especially helmets which comply with the New Zealand Safety Standard (NZS 8600:2002 All-terrain Vehicle Helmets).
